OUR SERVICES

1. Individualized, Person-centred Training for families, paraprofessionals and professionals working with individuals with Autism/ASD and others who need extra support in our communities.

This training is the culmination of 30+ years of education, research, multiple educational and life experiences as well as learning in a transdisciplinary model.

Since retiring from the Halifax Regional School Board in 2016, Jan Keddy and Partners has provided training for over 600 people in our HRM community and other parts of Nova Scotia.

Jan’s training includes 14 years of research:

  • This research was based in current evidence-based best practices
  • It focused on the barriers and looks for the reasons for our students’ challenges including educational practices
  • Although this research was focused on Autism/ASD, Jan came to understand these interventions and educational practices had wider implications for all learners, especially others with various brain-based conditions

2. Back to Balance Initiative (BBI): partnerships using movement, exercise, yoga and circles of friendship and support to help all interested individuals to gather in safe spaces in our community. BBI is based on brain research that proves “movement is medicine.”

  • Listening and Learning Together: a collaborative learning community for parents, paraprofessionals and multi-disciplinary professionals, which encourages all interested people to share experiences, knowledge, research and specific questions in a respectful, collaborative open dialogue and problem-solving model.
  • Back to Balance Open Door Club for youth and adults: recreation, exercise movement, social opportunities and life-skill development for all youth and adults who need a “safe space” and support to be in the community.  “What’s your story”? Once “comfortable and part of a group, participants of all ages will be asked to choose and implement proactive social and wellness routines, while learning new skills of daily living and employment skills.

If you are interested in joining Jan and her current partners on her journey to fill the gaps in NS service delivery and practice; if you would like to know about the research, and learn about transdisciplinary experiences and knowledge, then reach out to Jan to discuss these learning and action research opportunities.
